    Saved the neighbors Yamaha today

Neighbours daughter comes to the door begging for help, says their ski is sinking.

Sure enough, it is down by the stern and essentially floating neutral on the flotation in the ski, all fluid caps were still above the water line.

Got my trusty old chain-hoist and hoisted the thing up enough to get the engine mostly dry, yanked the plugs and turned it over. WOW THAT IS A LOT OF WATER!!!

Cranked with plugs out until we weren't getting as much water then put a single plug in and cranked until it tried to fire, swapped plugs back and forth until it would run on each cylinder individually, then put both plugs back in.

As to the sinking, boyfriend of ski owner had used aluminum foil as the right side drain plug mmmmmkay...

I taped up a bolt that was close and ran it in, but the bilge, if it has one, wasn't doing anything so I idled it over to our neighbourhood ramp.

It took a good 5 minutes to drain...wow.

Ran it again with the pump in the water on the trailer long enough to get the cylinders hot and some good smoke coming out.

Should be good as new once they put a proper plug back in it.

need to ride it asap to really get the water out of it or it will lose a bearing on the crank needs to be done asap and con be done without the drain plugs as long as the ski keep moving forward as a decent speed

Aluminum foil that's great. Kudos to you for lending a hand.

So running it on the trailer at idle to 2500RPM for 15+ minutes won't get the water out? I would think it is more of a issue with getting the engine properly hot and getting oil everywhere back in the engine.

All total it probably ran for 30 minutes after getting it back running. Not sufficient?

Time for her to upgrade the boyfriend ...

Part of the reason for actually riding the machine at speed is to get the airflow through the engine.

At least you were running it on the ramp with a water load on the jet pump so the engine was producing some power and therefore flowing some air to reach 2500 RPM. Which is better than just idling, of course.

Probably the only things I would have done differently would be to actually run it around at good speed for 10-20 minutes, then spray fogging oil into the engine and shut it down while fogged. And let that fogging oil seep in overnight.

However, as it is that machine is probably just fine.

    The boyfriend ...

Amazes me the things people do with skis. Foil as a drain plug. Least maybe a cork or something that will hold tension. Very least pull it out the water after riding.
