    massive amounts of oil.

Ok if this isnt in the right place dont shoot me. Im new here.
I just Purchased a 2002 Gtx Rfi with 193 hours. Noticed in hull large quantity of clean oil. cant pinpoint leak. Runs fine in and out of water I have only had it water for an hour dont think I lost any oil out of oil tank but I am worried as to where it is coming from. Any thoughts? cant figure out how to post picture but I have filled 2 large mixing bowls with oil. dont tell the wife.

Common for oil tanks to leak at the seams and lower grommet. Also check oil line fittings on cases, sometimes need to be resealed. But most common issue is oil tank seams. Just rub your finger down seam and underneath where oil fitting comes out.

get a new oil tank and grommets . Bleed the oil line to the pump after replacement.

A clean hull is a happy hull

don't even bother trying to patch the tank. Nothing will really stick to that plastic

you can really reduce the leak by only filling the tank half full or less.

I'd confirm the oil sender if you are taking that approach

my intention is to replace whatever isnt right. I just cant find the problem. The only reccommended mechanic around me is swamped. ive been told its fine to run but really dont want to risk damage and oil just isnt cheap. Thanks for the reply and where is the best place to get a new tank?

the tanks are know to leak around the seams, I've done quite a few of them.

You can order the tank and grommets right here.

    http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....make=seadoopwc

No more than an hour or two of work including the clean up.

and yeah..the oil is expensive compared to the tank. The fine for discharging oil into the water is even more expensive and injection oil that has leaked into the hull will be discharged into the water at some point

    <surprised look> NOT

yeah..the early tanks didn't stand up well to some kinds of injection oil ( don't know which brand could be the culprit) as I've seen cracked tanks on low hour skis owned by fuddy-duddies ( like me) and I suspect plastic welding fails on the others.

we'd love to have a snapshot of the patched tank here as a warning to those who think they can patch the tank with whatever magic good is popular this week.

it's a waste of time, good injector oil and a load of old t-shirts.

make sure to order the tank here and NOT buy a cheap "good " tank on ebay or maybe some NOS that looks good but comes from the bad lots. again, not worth the effort, you want a tank that was produced in the last year or two.

so pray tell..what does "smdh" signify?
    I'll take a guess:

    same method different headache?
