Drive shaft just slides out of the impeller.
BUT, there is an o-ring inside there that creates an air suction as you try to withdraw the drive shaft. Put some tension on it, and hopefully the suction will slowly subside as air leaks in and you can keep working the drive shaft out.
Be careful you don't get hurt when it lets go!

Last I checked the o-ring into the impeller was still available and was under $1.00 at the local polaris dealer. I'd replace it if it's starting to crack or is already gone. Also make sure you have the rubber bumper's in each end of the driveshaft.
