Anyone build a rack above the skis on a trailer?

Anyone build a removable rack that goes above the skis to transport tubes, bikes etc?

im trying to figure out the best way to go about doing this. When the whole family comes out we bring alot of shit, I would love to be able to blow the tube up at home and strap it above the skis along with a cooler the when we get down remove the tube and cooler and unhook the cross braces to get the skis loaded/unloaded.

inwould also like to be able to add a Thule luggage carrier with water tight bag for when we go on vacation. Actually we are planning a 2 week vacation down to the keys, ft lauderdale etc sometime in November and would prefer to have the luggage on the trailer and take the jeep down.

inthink this would be pretty easy except for the fact that the cross braces need to be removable so we don't decapitate our selfs loading the skis

    Nice!

But that works because you have an AWESOME trailer

i dont have that room in the front for anything like that. It would have to be something like this : Click image for larger version.

Which i think looks easy enough since there doesnt look to be any welding done. I would probably beef that up a bit with some cross braces since it would be going across both skis. I would just like to come up with something that i can remove the cross pieces (above the skis) when we dont need the rack or can easily remove them at the ramp so somone doesnt get their head smashed as we put them on/off.

Any thoughts? Im really good with wood but when it comes to metal im kind of clueless and unfortunately dont have friends that know how to work with metal.

That picture is actually what gave me the idea I the upper rack

I would follow what he did that looks pretty basic for a handy person to build. Also there are always mobile welding guys in almost ever city that are very reasonable if you need a few small welds done.

I just stopped into a local shop and they can bend the aluminum for me as long as i provide it. Since i have the karavan WCA1249 trailer i can only put the rack above one of the skis since both skis "move" independently of each other.

I went to Home Depot an bought EMT (Electrical conduit). I then hung it under the trailer. I use bungee cords to strap all my stuff downClick image for larger version.

I used chains to hang it so I can always remove it or if I hit something on the road it will flex and move. I can carry 3 ice chests, 2 easy-ups 8 chairs, and two tents, plus 4 pwc scissor stands. I had the same problem as you to. Much stuff so I moved it all to the trailer.
