    97 SLTX 1050 Ignition Upgrade???

I have a 1997 SLTX 1050 with a bad stator. I want to upgrade the ignition as I have heard it is a weak link on these machines. I just bought a new stator off a 2000 SLX, #4010170, can I just plug this in or do I need an updated CDI and other parts? I have read the post in the tech section on this site but am not clear if I need a newer CDI or not and what about the wiring?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Thanks beerdart, any idea why the up to 98 kit and the 99 kit are exactly the same with different PN stators? What is different with the stators just the plugs? I already have a #4010170 stator I want to use on my 1997, just wondering if I get the CDI # 4010447 what my issues will be? Anyone have a CDI for sale #4010447?

    Thanks again,
    Ryan

Polaris split up the electrical box on the 99 SLTX...one part in the back and one part in the front storage compartment...wiring goes to different places.

so the only difference in the stators is the update for the 99 has longer wires to reach the split box?

    Stator wiring

The early style domestics (like 1996 SLTX) had the stator wires the exit below the bendix assy and have a diffenent wiring harness than the newer style (like Pro-1200) that had a nice rubber plug into the crankcases at the top of the mag housing. The stators are identical internally, just the wiring harness and connectors are different. This is the same for both twins & triples..
