Thumbs up Ultra 250 Cavitation Repair

Hi everyone..........took my new 250 to the lake and guess what?

Had a tremendous amount of cavitation out of the hole!

Went home...............checked the pump area........very clean.........removed the pump and just as I thought...........Kawasaki AGAIN put a large glob of CLEAR GREASE on the pump seal!

This was a problem on the Ultra 150's as well.

Solution?............remove the pump seal and clean as best as possible and wash with soap and water.............NO CONTACT CLEANER OR BRAKE CLEANER!............AS IT WILL MAKE THE SEAL SWELL!.............You can clean the inside of the hull and pump shoe with contact cleaner or brake cleaner to remove the grease and dirt............when everything is clean...............soak the shoe area in the pump and the seal VERY HEAVY with WINDEX.

The pump will slide right in and the windex will evaprate and it will be an air tight seal.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!...............HOPE THIS HELPS!

David, did you actually test this after you went thru the clean up etc to make sure it corrected the problem? I am having the same thing and am thinking about doing what you mentioned but want to be 100% sure it cured your problem before starting to rip the rear end apart.

    Thanks

    Curtis

    Shoe!

You may look in to where the shoe is mounted to the hull also, when I took mine apart, there was silicone sticking in to the pump tunnel @ a 1/4 inch or more in some places, if there is to much in the way it will cause cavition.I had that on both sides.

    Smile Cavatation 250X

Yeah, took care of all the cavitation problems that I had.
If this step does not do it for you..............the ride shoe that bolt to thehull might be your cause of cavitation................

Removing the pump is not difficult...........the only tough part is getting all the hose clamps off the pump housing and reduction nozzle.
