2000 slx falls flat after wot

History - blown engine (project)1200 std. bore engine rebuilt spring 2011, new crank, new pistons new rings, rebuilt carbs, new stator and cdi. ran fine till this year, starts and idles fine, runs smooth to 4000-5000 rpm all day, if I go wot 6000-6700 falls flat and cuts out and then I have to restart, if I catch it in time and play with the throttle I can keep it running but have to go back down to idle then come back up to speed again. last year while riding, it cut out on me and would not restart, when I opened it up and checked the electric box it had some water in it. I cleaned/dried it out and it started right up and rode fine till now. had a similar problem with an 97 sl900 which turn out needing updated stator and cdi. so now im wondering if the cdi is not the updated version, or defective, or possibly damaged from water. in either case is there an issue with stator too. or can this problem be caused by something else. I see a lot of post with similar problems, but there doesn't seem to be a solid answer to any of them? btw the number on my pvl is 4010379 is this the correct/updated cdi?

All 1200s were updated/GenIII. I would check your carbs, sounds like its starving for fuel

Just curious, How about if engine timing moved, would that cause this type of issue?

update - I rebuilt carbs checked all fuel lines, took it out for a test run, no change......if I go full throttle it bounces between 5000-6400rpm for about 5 to 10 seconds then falls flat and cuts out. I restart and its fine till I hit around 4500 and above... as long as it stays below that, it runs great with excellent throttle response, I cruised for [email protected] with no issues, smooth throttle no hiccups at all. So could I be having a rev limiter problem??Anyway to bypass or remove limiter to test??
    Please help
    Thanks

Ohms check coil to plug boots see if problem lies there. Sure sounds like a bad wire or boot.

I agree with BryanP about starvng for fuel, u said u checked fuel lines, did u check fuel filter/s? and fuel pump? Check line routing to make sure it's not kinked anywhere.

Are you running resistor plugs? What plugs are you running?
