    SL 650 dies on idle

    Hi,
This is my second posting on the subject. Since I didn't get any reply in the Open Discussion sub-forum, I tought that I might have posted my message in the wrong place. So here is my second attempt. I am a newbie and just bought a 1993 SL 650 in its original state (no modification has been done to it as far as I can see, not even recommended modifications from services bulletins). I bought it from a marine engine specialist that had it maintained over the years. I have It started on the trailer for a test (with a water hose connected to it) and it ran on idle smoothly for 1 min or so then I hit the stop button. I got it on the lake, it started but I could not have it run on idle for more than 30 sec. The engine died if I did not give it a bit of trottle. I was able to restart it and ran it for an hour or so at different speeds. Every thing seems OK, then I tried to have it idling and again the engine ran for 30 sec or so and died. Any idea on what is going on?
    Thanks

Hello - You can begin by reading through all of the applicable information here. Your request for help is very general, so please provide some additional information.

What are the compression numbers for each cylinder?
What RPM is the motor currently idling at? It should be around 1250 RPM in the water.
What are your current high and low speed needle settings? Re-set them to factory.

You mention that very little if anything has been done to the ski. The fuel system and carb rebuild is of critical importance when it comes to upgrade and maintenance. All of the information on what to do is in the link above.
