RIVA/Athena ECU How To: Adjusting Engine Idle

Hi everyone! We're aware of the issues and questions posted here on the GH forums in relation to our Athena ECU's. Our top priorities are providing a positive overall experience and customer satisfaction. One of the issues we noted is our documentation. In response we completely reworked the Quick Start Guide adding more screen captures and more detailed and thorough explanations of the set up processes.

Another request we've noted is the ability to adjust engine idle. We put together a technical manual outlining the process for Sea-Doo iControl models using our Direct Connect Athena ECU. The manual contains step-by-step instructions, detailed screen captures and setting references.

Please note that this is not to be performed as part of the initial set up of the ECU. It would be done only after the engine is warmed up and it is determined the idle is too low or too high. Not all craft require the engine idle be adjusted. In craft where the idle was determined to be too low or too high we found that only a minor adjustment was necessary.

It is important that you read through the entire manual before physically performing the adjustment. If you have any questions regarding the process please contact our Tech Support Rep, Bubba, directly at (954) 247-0705 or [email protected].

What about the sporadic hard starting? Some tips for that would be great.

We've found that most of hard start issues are related to engine idle. One of the steps for the Engine Idle Adjustment addresses it. We will look into it further to determine whether or not a separate procedure and document are necessary. Thank you!

Now you just need to do something like this for the full software. Maybe not as detailed into one specific function but of what each table does etc. The little you find out in the help file to the right is not enough in my opinion.

Like how do I see the temperature offset tables for fuel and timing? Whether it be air temp or coolant temps. Anything else that could affect those values.

That is also related to low idle, anything lower than 1500 RPM will give you low oil warning, add Valvoline racing oil straight 40.
You would not have that issue again.

We are working on more documents. Athena is an Italian based company. As we learned from the first QSG we can't just put their documents through a translator program and post them. We have to work through them ourselves and basically rewrite them. Not something we want to rush! We're working on it. Please be patient.

That is a result of a low idle condition. If your engine idle is 1,800rpm after warm up and you're still experiencing it please contact Bubba directly at (954) 247-0705 so he can document your issue and work with you directly to resolve it.

Can you expand on that please? EG - Is the issue top speed lower than stock or lower than expected after installing our Athena ECU? What other mods were installed?

You guys might should have thought that out a bit better before you released this to a performance community with no real documentation. It would have saved you a bunch of support calls since these base maps don't seem to work very well for a lot of people. Hate to sound argumentative but im being honest here.

no other mods at this time, will only run 67mph with Athena, will run 68-69 with stock ecu, may wait this out till this winter, and give you time to work this out, to afraid of blowing a motor, may go ahead and start putting on supporting mods then
