Miami to Exumas completed! DirtySouthPirates from New Orleans
Well we made it..the drive from NOLA to Haulover...Haulover to Bimini....Bimini to MorgansBluff...Morgans Bluff to Nassau...Nassau to HighBourn Cay...HighBourn Cay to Staniel Cay and back...with no chase boat...we had 2 RXTX as..2 RXPX, 2 GTX limiteds and 1 Yamaha...we had EPIRBS on each ski, spot locator, we used rash guard pants and shirts, fuel bags from Australia, we flew the wife's to Nassau and continued..
the trip started at with our drive from New Orleans to Haulover with 2 4place trailers, watching TS Chantel approach, THIS TS WOULD NOT DETOUR THE PIRATES..we arrived in Miami late afternoon and spent a night in Miami...we departed Haulover at 0515, as the sun rose...and arrived in Bimini around 10am 47 miles..the sea state was 1 to 3 ft..customs took a while, but we got through it with no issues, then continued on across the great Bahama Bank to North Andros Island..75miles. The sea state was 1 to 3ft across, yea kick our butts, but we had all the correct gear...once we arrived in Morgans Bluff around 5pm, we had to siphon fuel, the marina only took cash, but the conch was good, this fueling took longer than expected.. We completed fueling around 630pm, and night was approaching, so we headed south keeping close to shore to make the crossing of the tongue short as possible, once we reached the closest point to cross we made a decision not to cross with approaching storm, so we continued south to a marina found on garmin maps, not knowing if they had accommodations, so along the way we looked for shelter cuz if they didn't have accommodation we were going to camp it....we made it to Kamalam Cay, and found a nice resort with food and accommodation, the people were nice, but it did remind us all of the Baits Motel..LOL kinda natural resort. Yes we were lucky. By this time our body's were aching, first day 150 miles in 1 to 3ft....day 2 we started fresh we did find a local fuel station on the water, just had to knock on his door and they fueled us up. The wife's were flying into Nassau at noon, so we had to make the crossing in very rough seas...4 to 6ft rollers for 20 miles, the tongue is very dangerious, but we had all the gear...we made it across in less than 2 hours, and now paradise Nassau...we picked up the wifes and stayed the night....day 3 we loaded up and headed for HighBourn Cay, the beginning of the Exumas, again it was rough crossing from Nassau to HighBourn Cay 30 miles with the lady's on the back...we did get a late start and arrived in HighBourn Cay around lunch time...once in Highboirn we meet Kevin the general Manager of the Island resort, really cool guy, next year we will stay in HighBourn for a few days....we left HighBourn Cay and set out for Our final destination Staniel Cay, again it was rough, but we had girls from New Orleans and they are tough..LOL. Navigating through the islands to Staniel Cay was easy, but difficult when the weather was rough, we stayed inside the islands as much as we could, till we arrived at Indigo Island..we refueled with our carried fuel, and was greeted by securty, only making sure we were ok...LOL. We made it to Staniel Cay late evening....
to be continued..........

"...but we had girls from New Orleans but they are tough..."
You got that right -totally reminded me of this old, NOLA soft rock song:
New Orleans Ladies
A flair for life, love and laugher
And they hold you like the night
Holds a chill when this cold wind's blowing
Them Creole babies
They strut and sway from dusk till dawning
And they roll like the river
A little wave will last forever
Congrats -great trip! You guys are tough as nails... waiting to read the story's conclusion. Thanks for sharing.
