What year/model should I be looking for?

Hey guys I'm new to the site.

I have a 1994 Waverunner 3 GP. I've used it sporadically over the past few years, but there's no denying it's a pretty slow and outdated ski. I'm not really interested in selling such an old ski since it still works, but I'm looking to buy a second hand ski that I can possibly fix up that will haul a$$. After reading around on the site, it seems like a lot of people seem to think that Yammis are tough to beat when it comes to reliability. I'd like to get something I can mod to go 70+ without breaking the bank. I'm not new to modding vehicles and toys, so if I know what I need to be working with, I can make it happen. I'd like the ski to be stable and fast. It doesn't have to be the latest and greatest though. I'm sure any more modern ski will seem like a HUGE improvement from my old Waverunner.

I dont know if I should go 2 or 4 stroke, or fuel injected or carbs., 2 or 3 seater. Shoot me your suggestions...i'm sure they're isn't a lack of opinions.

    Look for a gp1300r.

It looks like it's fuel injected. What does that thing top out at?

64 stock. Parts are easily available and mods are cheap. I can't find a better looking ski. It is fuel injected, and oil injected.

He said he wants to fix it up do I'm guessing that makes him stuck to 2 stroke

An fzr or fzs can modded to achieve speeds close to or over 80 mph pretty easily
    And will still be reliable

Are FZR's and FZS's more expensive? Aren't those the newer skis from Yamaha? Why do I need to stick with a 2 stroke if I plan to mod it?

Sounds like a budget minded purchase, but you must balance the cost of getting to 70+ and the maintenance in keeping it there. I say an 08 SHO overall, but as stated a GP1300r or GP1200r. You will lose some reliability in getting a 2 stroke over 70+ though as why I said an earlier SHO.
