New to Greenhulk, looking for some thoughts on a new ski
Hey guys, im looking to get back into the PWC community. Currently in college and looking to buy a good used PWC, ive owned a 2005 GP1300r and an FX160, i liked the GP but was disappointed in its acceleration. Im looking to spend about 5k and have been considering either an RXP215, or another FX160. What are ya'lls opinions on these and im certainly open to ideas on any other skis. I spend most of my time riding alone and fairly aggressive, but on occasion i do take a female out with me. thanks for the help

Would be nice if you could swing for one of the newer 1800 cc Yamahas Matt, but not likely @ $5000.00. If you're looking to stay w/ 4-stroke, you might find a Kawasaki STX 15 F. Good acceleration, 60-62 mph top speed stock. Any of the 215 hp SeaDoos would suit you, but make sure the necessary updates have been done to the motors. Good luck !!!

What are the major updates to look for on the 215's, ive read alot of the washers on the superchargers but are there any other important things to be concerned with?

Depends on the year of the rxp.
Some years had the ceramic clutch washers and possible valve failure issues.
I think its the 05-06 for valves and washers. 07& part of 08 had ceramics.
The rxp is going to be a lot more snappy than a yamaha Ho.
Just test ride any ski you look at and try to learn its history.
It's all in how its maintained..

How do the RXP compare to the FXHO from a maintenance standpoint, I only had my HO for a few months and it seemed pretty bulletproof but the constant high RPMs were a little concerning

5k is tough to get a really hard accelerating ski unless you get an RXP. 2 seater hull and can mod it to get where you want. Definitely the SC needs updating and possibly valves. In would say an SHO, but priced a little higher than 5k. As far as maintenance, it requires more due to SC and the IC, but usually close to the same with oil changes. Now you may have to run premium fuel is you don't already. The FX160 wasn't a performer like the RXP, but that is a trade off.

Yeah college budgets suck, I may can come up with some extra cash if a find a good deal on something, I really fell in love with the FXHO (I had the cruiser and that seat was great) when i had it but was just looking for some extra speed on the top end. Would it be worth buying another 05-07 FXHO and trying to put some after market parts on it? I think I'd like an RXP but im really a fan of Yamaha, just feel like better quality machines to me.
