    Is this a first?

So my 96 SLX was running great. I start it up to bring someone to shore and all of a sudden I hear a clunking and banging and it won't go. Must be the drive shaft coupler. NOPE! The center section spun inside the stator. I'm guessing this is why I lost thrust?

Now I found this unit in the cellar ready to go with the 4 blade 79 impeller. Should I just try it seeing how it comes stock on a 95 SLX?

The impeller end splines are trashed.

And the brand new bearings and seals are still fine. I wonder if I could weld the two pieces together. That would def ruin the seal though.

I would be shopping for a new stator, rather than trying to repair that one.

Is it repairable? Sure, with enough effort anything is fixable. I'm with K447 on this one, it wouldn't be worth the time and effort to repair it. You probably could weld it back in but who knows how close you can get to factory specs and what the integrity of the unit would be after the repair.

back in business got a long driveshaft coming for $35, going with the five vane for now and haven't decided if I'm gonna try the four blade or go back to the swirl. Both impellers were used on the SLX 780 one a 95 the other 96

So does anyone know if the center section is a pressed fit? Looks like it was but now that its spun it slides right out. Loctite maybe Click image for larger version.
