    mercury xrt pwc's

While i was out and about today i drove by a local boat repair shop and saw these 2 beauties on a trailer. I have heard stories of them but never seen one in person. from what i found on the internet they are pretty rare and were only made for about 1-2 years in 97-98 and in wicked limited numbers. They are mercury xrt performance craft . i think they are 3 cyl 1200 2 strokes. they look in pretty good shape and by the stack of reg stickers they have been around for quite awhile. I am going to stop back there in the morning to see if i can check them out a little better. i love the mirror placement in the front of the footwells !! and a neutral lever too !! just thought i would post up some pics for everyone to ck out...Bruce

WOW!!! I had no idea any of these existed. I remember when Mercury was ready to get into the market around 1997. PWC sales suddenly dropped so Mercury cancelled their program. My guess is that these two craft were prototypes that were given to a Mercury employee. Thanks for sharing these pictures-these boats are a neat piece of PWC history. I think they would have been a very competitive product.

I found an article on google that said 100 were made but never sold to public only to employees.

Reverse/Neutral control on the left, where it belongs

Warning, objects in mirror may be your own legs.

Looks like the trailer (vintage Triton) belongs to those machines, but the bow roller support arm is no where near the hull. Never mind that the winch strap is entirely free of any guide or lift restraint during heavy braking... I guess that trailer never goes on actual highways.
