    GTX 185 very slow

    Guys,

I've been tasked with looking into why a friends GTX 185 is a little on the slow side when it comes to top end speed.

It has a Riva intake grate and a custom 3" intake. On the water it max's out at around 60mph indicated (Guessing just over 50 on the GPS) on glass water.

What speed should one of these be seeing?

It has a new standard prop, but could probably use a new wear ring.

You didn't list the year but since around 2004 all of these skis had ceramic washers in the SC(supercharger). Simply remove the air intake tube from the SC, if you can spin it by hand it is toast. Remove the SC and see if it came apart, if so it can be a $4000 job to repair the engine. If the SC did not come apart and is just slipping, send it to Jerry for rebuild service, about $400.

Its a 2005 and its had the washers changed. It holds 7650 all day too.

That's about right on the rpms..

Yeah the RPM's seem fine. It just doesn't seem to go!

Fair bit of cativation from hole shot then an indicated 60 mph top speed so in reality probably early 50's.

My speedo on the 04 GTX is within 1 mile of my GPS on flat water. So maybe you are getting to 60 which is close to where you should be.

I'll give it a check. It really doesn't feel like 60!

With 2 people on the ski you are lucky to see 50!

My GTX 185 dash speed is 5-10 mph slow and basically worthless. He should be seeing 60-62 with a GPS at 7650 rpm.

Sounds like the impeller and wear ring need some attention.

    Would you recommend:

    A new wear ring
    Solas 12.20
    2 degree wedge

    To help the issue.

Yep, that sounds good. But I would check all the obvious stuff first like boost leaks, hose clamps, plugs, oil level, bla bla bla
