Stripped threads in PV cover can it be fixed?

How screwed am I? The bottom bolt on the rear power valve cover stripped while putting the actuator bracket on. I never made it to the 7.2 ft lbs and it started to spin. When I took the bolt back out there are threads that came with it. Can I use a helicoil on this and if so anyone know what size? Is it best to tap it? 2000 xl 1200 Limited. Thanks.

I looked in the manual and it shows a 6x25mm bolt. Now for the stupid question, would it be 6x25mm helicoil? Would I have to go to a larger size helicoil? If I recall the last time I did this you drill the threads out, tap the hole, insert helicoil, then break off the bottom piece. Thanks.

    yes, helicoil is fine

6mm is the bolt, and 25mm is the length

you will need a 6mm x whatever the thread pitch is (Im thinking its a 1.0) helicoil kit

While searching for Helicoil kits I’m not having any luck finding a 6x25mm insert. I’ve seen a few 6 or 9mm inserts but no 25. Can I double up on the inserts to get close to the 25mm length of the bolt? Is one 6 or 9mm insert long enough? It only requires 7.2 ft lbs of torque.

WFO you are correct it is a 1.0 pitch. Thanks.

There is no way you can sink that insert 25mm into the cylinder... thats the total length of the bolt, and it has to go thru the pv cover then gasket then cylinder... the 6mm long insert should be fine
