    97 gtx issue

I bought a 97 gtx. It cranks right up and runs great on the trailer but when I get it in the water it will run wide open for a minute then cuts back to about 3500 rpms for a few seconds and then run wide open again and just keeps repeating this cycle. It seems like it is going into a limp mode or something. I have found that the gasket between the exhaust manifold and pipe is leaking a little water. I'm going to change the gasket but I do not believe this will fix it. Anyone ever had this happen. It still has the grey lines so I have to change them and clean the carbs. Is this a fuel problem or electrical. Thanks Bryan

fuel, the internal filters are clogged with fuel line goo. keep running it and kiss the motor goodbye.

good idea to go for a full carb rebuild kit + needle and seats the ski is 16 years old!

don't bust the joint between the head pipe and the stinger, it's really hard to get back together without new leaks.

plenty of other threads on this issue. search for "tempo"

goodluck and welcome to the hulk.
