Can I weld the drive shaft into the coupler? slt 750

So I was wondering if i could just weld the drive shaft inside the coupler on an slt 750? both the drive shaft and the coupler are stripped real good. I know it would have to stay like that but who cares if its working, right?
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

The engine needs to move on the rubber mounts. The stock drive shaft has some flex at the coupler splines, in part to accommodate flex of the hull and the engine.

The splines also allow the drive shaft to 'float' between the engine and the jet pump, centered by the rubber end bumpers.

Find a good drive shaft and coupler. Rebuild the through-hull bearing while you have the jet pump off.
