    Break in

I have one hour on the new 2006 GPR.

I was told to vary the RPMS for the first hour then just ride it the way I want after that as long as I dont go open it up all day long and sprint full throttle back and forth across the lake for the first ten hours. Then to bring it in between 10-20 hours for service.

During the checkout I was shown the oil tank and told to watch the level but was not told to add any to the first tank of gas. Now I notice the manual says to add some oil to the first tank.

What do you guys think? Was I given the right info? Should I have added some oil? I rechecked with the service guy and they said the same thing.

By the way...this thing is a real blast.

I should clairify...the service guy gave me the same story. He did not mention to add oil to the first tank of gas and he said I should just vary the RPMS for the first hour, then just ride it the way I want as long as I do not open it up all day long before I take it in for the first service.

They want you to add oil to the tank to keep it richer during break in.

if nobody told me to do it, maybe they did it during set up.

would it damage the engine to not do it?

is it the same oil you put into the mix tank?

    Thanks,

    Mike

It wont hurt the engine without the oil Mike. As long as you take it easy for the first hour or two you will be ok. The extra oil is kinda like a little insurance, especially when you are taking it easy on the ski.
Many of us guys who constantly run the shizzit out of our skis mix an extra ounce of oil per gallon in the gas also just for that added little bit of insurance. Im a believer in over oiling just a little in hi perf applications...

if it helps my dealer wound the oil pump up from new and then reset it on its first service..
not saying this is right but just his way of doing it,i personally would have rather added the mix myself...
only after the first service did he tell me this above info as well..
