    thinking about leaping over

    hey whats up guys?

    currently own a 06 seadoo gtx 215.. im thinking about selling it (financial reasons) but i dont want to be without a ski.. ive seen a couple gprs forsale recently in my area for considerably less then my ski is worth (figured i can kill two birds with one stone.. sell my ski pay some bills and pick up another ski for less).. ive heard great things about the gprs but then again, i really havent looked too far into them. can anyone school me on the better of the years and motors to look for.. any trouble points where i need to look at when im looking at one.?? ive seen a ton of these modded and converted to a 4tec but im looking for reliability and speed somewhat close to what i have now.. (67ish)...

    Compression test and ride whatever your looking to buy.
    If they won't let you ride it walk away..
    Try to get a gp1300r. I've had a few and loved them..

    What should compression be in a 1300?

    Any year in particular to look for..?

    I know with cars some year motors are better then others

    Personally I would look for an 05 to 08 model. 2004 years and earlier are Powervalve motors and I believe the non-powervalve motor is less likely to give you issues. Also, the years earlier than 03 I believe have carbs so I would want EFI. Compression on a stock ski should be 115-120 psi and pretty close (+ or - 5 psi) from cylinder to cylinder. A moded ski may have 150 psi or above (with a shaved head). I would want to know if the cat converter has been removed and a D plate installed. If it hasn't, it is only about $75 mod if you are ok with minor wrench work. Some motors last 400 hrs, some last 50 hrs. I think that generally you get 150 to 200 hrs you may want to consider a top end job or also go ahead and replace the crank which if a total build is performed you may be out $2k if built with OEM parts. I ride my 06 GPR with a friend that has an 2006 RXP 215 hp. We run almost exactly the top end speed. He is probably a little quicker out of the hole. I have 160 hrs on mine but a total rebuild occurred at 107 hrs. He was almost 200 hrs but no rebuilds on his ski. I have seen his doo sink, break clamps, and replace supercharger washers but that's about it. I think 4 strokes are more reliable. Hope this helps.

    Hows that fuel consumption on those gpr's compared to an '06 oem 4-tec?
