Prop set back mod and re-pitch question
I am on the fence trying to decide to get the prop set back and re-pitch mod,
I am looking for some input good/or bad if you have had some first hand experience with it,
does it help for hole shot,
does it cure cavitation on hole shot
better top speed
better mid range punch
any and all information if you want to share,

I had SFR setback my SRX in 2008. Yes to everything you listed.
Just get a SRZ as they are already setback. Too easy!

I need a new 15/20r and id like to eventually do a set back mod. People seem to like the set back i guess.
But what exactly is SRZ?

My SKAK 14/18 is set back, I like it alot for holeshot and mid range, top speed the same really, its hard to tell in the sea anyway...
There is only soo much power that the stock pump setup can handle there are only soo many mods you can make before you simply need a better pump.
A three blade will help cavi, and hookup, but at the lose of top end, maybe you need to look at having two props depending on size and typ of course your racing...
You could suffer some cavi off the line if you got 2-3mph on top end on a big course...
Les Cookes pump cone is the nuts for cavi!!!
Take the front of your prop down to 13 and tune the back for rpm would be my advice.
I have seen on bigger power setups the set back have no effect on cavi, maybe even made it worse... Again IMO this was because the stock pump was simply overwhelmed, too much power.
I have also played with cam timing to soften the bottom a touch.... This was really searching for every bit and I didnt really have cavitation issues, I could just feel the prop start to slip so I changed the timing to make the bottom softer and ended up getting away better. This was purely for holeshot.
Hows you wear ring??? Mine dont last long atall before it looses its edge, and yes my pump bearings are good.

Hey Ronnie.. I had this done to one of my extra Solas 15/20 by SpeedFreeks.. Erik repitched the prop to a (12.5/1 along with the setback mod to increase rpm's. I noticed about a 2 boat length better holeshot along with more mid range. RPMs were up 100 and top speed was about 2mph slower but it now gets there much faster.
Stock 15/20 - 8010 @ 76mph
SpeedFreeks 12.5/18 - 8110-20 @74
Hope this helps
