    99 xl 1200 question

Noob here, & new to PWCs. Just wondering if this is a good deal or not? I have a chance to buy a 97 gp1200 with a Riva arrester setup anyway the ski starts & runs great & seems to be in good shape with 96 hrs on the clock. This is actually a set of skis, the second is a 99 xl1200 limited with a bad rear cylinder, something bounced around in there, the plug electrode is mashed against the bottom of the plug, I have only had a chance to inspect the skis briefly, as they are at a boat dealer who took them in on trade & really knows nothing about skis as they don't deal in them & they were getting ready to close. I'm just wondering if I should risk it for the price of 3000 for both skis on a decent shorelandr trailer, it seems like a smoking deal to me, but I don't know what it will cost to fix the xl, I have always done all of my own mechanic work but am new to skis. Any input on the reliability of these skis or what I should look for before I buy them would be greatly appreciated, thanks

PS. I will have them perform a compression test tomorrow when I go to look at them again, I'm assuming 120 to 130 is acceptable on the GP?

I'd tell'em 2k or so give or take, but beware don't be taken by much. From my experience just ones option, by the time you spend money for a top end rebuilt, carbs and whatever you may find that needs attention. Also you may have to replace the crank sooner or later unless you plan on flipping it. I fear a dealer, I prefer from a private owner myself. Good luck let us know how it goes

3000 is high end IMHO the gp is worth 1800-2000 in perfect condition this time of year none running xl's 300-500 trailer 500ish I just just got a huge double trailer that carries my SUV/gp for 375. Plan on 1k for upper end on the xl couple houndred per carb sets for rebuilds should be done right away if you don't have any history. At the end of the deal u are going do be pushing 5k for the set when it is all said and done assuming you want to do it right.

Granted these are all central fla Prices and skis are abundant here might be a better deal for you depending on your location.

Beware of sbt rebuilds many have had bad experiences I much prefer to have my top ends done at a good shop that take pride in their work and get crank done at crankworks. I did however put a complete sbt motor in my wife's SUV. But it never ever sees wot she normally runs about 3/4 throttle as she is our gear mule/tube puller and will never be modded or pushed hard going strong at about 40 hours and 140 compression, witch is impressive for a sbt. They are 10 mins from me tho so I am not worried about the quality as I can pull the moter on the SUV in 15min flat.

SBT, I wouldn't even buy a sticker from them. Plenty of good people to do the machine. Outside of the machine work DIY much cheaper its not that difficult doing it.

I edited that to make it make since, damn auto correct. Seriously tho the SUV is huge and engine removal is a matter of taking the front cover off, couple exhaust clamps, un hook fuel lines and moter mounts. The whole thing complete with intake/exhaust will come threw that hole.
