How to identify a bad cdi?

I have a 2001 Yamaha SUV and it is currently dead. I had ShortblocksRus rebuild my block and the carbs are freshly rebuilt. I pieced together my ebox with 2 1200 eboxes. How can I identify if my CDI is bad. I currently have a ski that does nothing when I hit the start button. No click at all from the ebox.

I have a fresh battery, all connections tight, confirmed working starter and start/stop switch, reset the start/lock program in the dash, battery is hooked up correctly...

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

    -Jake

Try running a ground from the battery to the inside of the electrical box. any one of the ground lugs in the E box.

Do you have the correct red wire going to the starter? It's pretty easy to get it and the red positive wire going to the battery backwards. The other thing is to make sure your wiring harness from the front on your motor is plugged into your electrical box. Unless something else is unplugged you should get a clicking noise.

I feel the slightest click/vibration from my relay... Is this going to be my problem? Which red lead wire goes to the starter? They both connect to the relay in the ebox... Would having the red wires mixed cause the relay to fail? Thanks!

Update: I bridged the relay with two screwdrivers and the motor turned over perfectly... What does this mean??? Thanks!!!!

Thanks... I put another in and now I have a prominent click in the relay, but the motor still doesn't turn over. I've checked all the grounds and the battery is fully charged. Any other advice? Thanks so much!!!

Check voltage at your starter when you press the start button. If your getting 12 volts there than you have a bad starter. If no voltage you probably have a bad relay if your fuses are good. The other cause would be a bad ground wire

    Ok... Update #2:

Put another relay in, one that I know worked, and the ski came alive!!! Thank you to all who helped.

    YudLuz2, thank you very much!

Now I saw a fuel leak from the carbs These skis are relentless!!!
