    MSX 140 hesitation around 40mph

Hi k447 , how do you know this emm is overheated? Just curious as my emm on my polaris msx 140 looks the same internally.
But i am having a problem with a sort of hesitation at 40mph,... it sort or starts to accelerate 1 second and the slows down 1 second and carries on like this not going past 40mph.

Does anyone know were to start investigating?
I have checked fuel pressure and thats fine at 24 psi.

    Cheers

    Welcome

    Basics first;

    Correct spark plugs installed?

    Has the TPS been replaced?

    Spark plug wire ohms correct?

    Thanks for the wecome

    New correct spark plugs installed
    Tps on its way
Checked fuel pressure... Which is fine
What ohms are the spark plug wires supposed to be? Il get this done now.

Also k477, how do i tell if my emm has overheated? How did you know from the picture of the processor chip in the emm that it has overheated? (Link above in my first post)

Is there anything else it could be, if its not any of the above?

Last Ficht engine I checked each spark plug wire measured right around 500 ohms, as I recall.

Regarding EMM diagnostics, what we are doing is checking everything around the EMM; Sensors, stator, wiring, grounds, TPS. If no external problem cause is found, yet the machine does not run properly, then the EMM is likely in need of repair.

Sometimes when the EMM gel sealant is examined there is clear indication of excessive heat and/or blackened components underneath. If it is apparent that something in the EMM is badly cooked, then the EMM needs repair. Often enough the component failure, if any, does NOT provide a clearly visible indication inside the gel material.

The diagnostics approach is the same regardless, since a failed EMM may also have an external failure. Even if the EMM looks burned, it is still a good idea to check all the other stuff.

Cheers i will post results of spark plug wires.

Do you think a bad stator could cause the problems im having? If so, could you let me know what readings the stator should be testing? I will test that also.

Also what sensors could cause this hesitation? If any.

Here is a pic of my emm everything looks fine apart from the slight bubbling around the processor, it dosnt look as bad as it looks in the photo, but im just wondering if this is something wrong or do some emm's have the bubbling and are absolutely fine?

The key to diagnostics is to be methodical. Do not guess what the cause might be, then only test for that.

See the Ficht engine section of my signature links for stator values. The ohms tests are worth doing on the Ficht stators, but unless the ohms readings are wildly out-of-spec the more useful test is the AC voltage while cranking test. There are five coils in the Ficht stator. Test each wire pair, then compare the readings.

K447, iv looked through lots of you pages and can find any regarding stator values and voltages.

Could you point me to the right page?
I have also had a look in the polaris manual and cant seem to find it there too, think i need some glasses!

    Thanks,

    Tested spark plug wires..........fine
    Tested fuel pressure...............fine
    Tested stator volts and ohms...fine
Tried working TPS from friend..still same problem
    Checked all grounds and wiring..fine

Is there anything else to test that could cause my prob?
