97 SLT 700 "To Buy Or Not To Buy?"

I found a super clean 97 SLT 700 with current registration. Guy says it's not getting spark to the plugs. He has no time to fix. I offered $125. I could sell the parts for way more than that. But, I'd like to keep it if it's worth keeping. Going to look at it tomorrow. I'm hoping it just needs a AGM battery. What should I look for? Is this model worth dealing with? I read that the ignition systems for the twin domestics are really expensive. How can I tell if it's just a battery and not the ignition? Is it worth a look?

While yes 125 bucks is a nice deal, a no spark issue could infact be a battery, or it could need the updated Stator and CDI.. those are very hard to find for a 700 there is usually one set on ebay for 800 dollars...but with searching you might be able to come up with one for 500 range if infact that is what it needs....for 125 bucks its worth the gambel

Its a nice hull too. Will need to do all the regular upgrades with fuel system, carbs, etc. I haven't been able to get into a good running healthy ski with a decent trailer for under $1000, no matter what the purchase price....

I'd verify that compression is good. If the motor has no or low compression and it looks like it needs an ignition update kit it may be a better parts ski.

If it looks like compression is good on the motor and it's in overall decent condition you could probably get it back up and running. I'd almost look for a good used stator for it and drop that in to get it running. But, you need to get it home, tear into it and see what it really needs.

For $125 I'd pick it up!

Buy it. You can discuss the pros and cons when you get it home.
