    Question

    98 gti, after replacing the wear ring. I had everything back together and running everything seemed to be ok. well this morning found that I had a oil leak at the pump cone so I took it back apart. I think I got the leak fixed. But my question is how hard should it be to turn the prop by hand should it be easy or should it be snug to turn.

    Well, there's two things that can bind the prop. When installing the impeller, you should make sure the thrust washer seats against the shaft end thrust bearing. If is is bound up when you tighten it, the prop will hardly, if at all, turn. This is most likely your problem.

    The other thing is that the impeller blade is bound against the new wear ring. No big deal...did it turn freely before you bolted the pump to the hull? If so then it is just the pump distorting because the bottom two ears are not shimmed correctly, distorting the pump making it grind into the wear ring at either 4 or 8 O'clock positions.

    Hey 96,
    Tested ski out today and it worked great. I checked everthing again when I got back to the house, no leaks and everything looked good it must have been the new wear ring.
