    Splines are toast!

My '12 RXP-X 260 came unhooked mid-way through a race today and then suddenly lost propulsion. Motor was spinning freely. Pulled them pump at home an my shaft/impellar splines are toast. Motor mounts look fine and I don't think the motor has shifted. So my question is this; If the motor/pump/thru-hull were slightly out of alignment for the past 70 hours, is it possible that the splines were slowly wearing down? Or does this kind of destruction require something immediate?

Any chance you sucked a rock? I hear that is the mode of failure now.

    Sounds like a misalignment issue.

I have seen the front engine mount soften up and under CC racing and hard turning causing the spline to load up in the corners fron the engine flexing ... The alignment was perfect ..

+1 on Alignment. If it's stock, take it to the dealer for warranty. shaft is 280, carbon seal 75 + other misc little parts etc. Not to mention it's a pain in the ass to pull everything out. I know because i'm doing it now. Plus you need the tools/knowledge to do it...mo money! My drive shaft is actually pulled out of the PTO by about 2/16 to 3/16. Not sure how only at about 40hours. Good news is that I caught it early only because I had issues fitting an aftermarket impeller. Guys at Riva really help me allot to trouble shoot the issue. Not sure I would've found the issue until a lot of damage may have been done. I bought alignment tool from SBT. Few other tools you need as well that I am purchasing. SBT does have shafts and rebuild parts...not sure how good they are but they say they are built to spec of the original. 2/3rds the price. I'm probably sticking with OEM since I'm doing allot of mods.

We were told the alignment issues came from the rieplate mounted pumps. But now I'm seeing it still with the 12 hull and shoe mounted ones too
