How to replace DESS beeper? 1997 xp and many others
I purchased a beeper from radio shack (#273-0068 ) that is supposed to be a similar replacement part for the stock seadoo beeper when the lanyard is plugged into the DESS. My question is how to get to the beeper? I don't want to break anything and I know it's supposed to be in the steering column below the DESS. Any instructions would be appreciated.

Well I started searching around. Four very small bolts hold down the top of the handle bar cover. Watch out for those bolts because I've lost two under my warped stock seadoo foot mats. Going to get a stronger magnet tomorrow to recover them...and I loosened up the throttle and start/vts Alan too. Pried the cover up slightly to find the beeper. Pulled out enough wire to mess with the beeper. On one of the sites someone said to give it a shot of wd40 and give it a good wack! That worked for a couple beeps!! But it quickly stopped again and never made another sound. So I clipped the wires and hooked up the beeper from radio shack. Purple to positive and tan to constant negative. Works perfect now. The beeper is slightly larger than the stock so it doesn't clip in but oh well.
