New to me 96 SLTX 1050
Just thought I would introduce myself, I have been lurking for a few weeks soaking up the knowledge on here. I gave up my boat and now have a new toy, a 96 sltx 1050. I took it out other the other weekend and it runs great, it had been sitting for close to 2 years so I ran premix in it for a while till I was sure it was getting oil. This ski has seen a lot of salt water, looks like it was primarily used in salt water.
My 2 concerns.
1. My first pwc, the jet drive sounds loud, I put marine grease in the grease fitting till I saw it coming out while it was turning over, is this ski just loud or should I look at something else?
2. Rebuilding carbs, this ski has 120 hours on it, the carbs look great, it starts and idles fine, the fuel lines have been upgraded and look in good shape, should I tear them down? It looks to have all original parts on it as it has the 2nd ground for the CDI and the carbs have 2 fuel pumps and not upgraded.
Not really an issue but the MFD is on its way out, can I do anything to save it? I can read the numbers, but just barely.

Welcome to the hulk,
Glad you are having fun on your ski! im thinking at sometime the hood was replaced with a SLT hood as the round hole in it is for a ROUND MFD, used in 94 and 95 SLTs. Great on rebuilding the carbs! its rather simple to replace the fuel line, and its cheap. might be good just to do so you know that its ALL GOOD! YES the MFDs can be brought back! see below in my signature for a link to a lot of info K447 put together for us.

Cool, I missed that link to the rebuilding of the MFD. And I had wondered why it had that round hole in the hood, that explains it. Probably had a tree or something fall on it sometime during its life of sitting.
If I take a video of the ski running would that help diagnose the sound of the jet pump? Sounds like a bearing issue, if it is coming from the engine am I in a world of pain?
This ski has been sitting unused for quite a bit of its life, I know that is not good for bearings and I don't want to make it worse.

a Video might help but. is it a general rattle? the Polaris pumps do Rattle...

I hear a whiiring sound like you get when a bearing is going bad, not sure if that is the usual sound or not from these ski's as I do not have one to compare to. I have tried searching youtube for a video of one running with the seat up to compare it to but have yet to find one good enough to hear it.

Im not crazy about the crank seal either, I think that is where the noise is coming from, I hope to get some water time this weekend so I can video it in action.

Ok guys, I got video of the engine running, hopefully it is good enough that someone can let me know if it sounds ok.
