    1997 gsx 800 a Holy electrical Nightmare..

My neighbor bought this 2 months ago
and I have been working nonstop on it since
Diagnostic frenzy all the way through this thing chasing demons..

Spittin and sputtering, we take it to dealer -no clue why sputter buy mpem
remove carburetors and clean them all out
reassemble, back on ski, No Spark "?"

Motor removed 4 times now.. getting tired of this..

I volt metered Everything.. according to manual specs
1.2 ohms across stator yellow wires, no continuity to ground
249 ohms across trigger coil, no continuity to signal wire
Bench test mpem for fuse pop, clean and clear
4.8 and 5.1 ohms plug boots
coil white wire showing only upto 7.1v "?"
Been all through eBox validating all grounds
    varified all buttons on handlebars
Continuity test all wire runs for breaks -clean..

    new mpem -nothing
    new coil -nothing
    new rectifier -nothing
    new agm gel battery -nothing

Many many Solid hours on thia ski..
just trying to get rhis guy out on the water with me
Frekin out here, anyone have a clue.?

For shits & giggles today, i test voltage at 3 yellow wires from stator while cranking
    0 - 0 - 1v AC wth a digital gauge, probably can't detect the pulse

I know you said no spark, but anyway. Rotary Valve timing? Fuel selector On-Off-Reserve plugged up? Whats the voltage at battery, if and when you can get to run.

You said spitting and sputtering like you have spark, but say you don't have spark.

1st of all, you dont have to be a smartass on your 7th post for a free suggestion.
and 2nd, your welcome for even posting trying to help you fix a 15 year old boat.

There is no mention of testing the trigger coil output, need to test that.

Most the time, when I have a "doesn't make sense" electrical problem, it is usually because the MPEM connector contacts are either corroded or damaged. I have seen a bunch of cases where a PO has tried to probe the MPEM contact with a DMM probe, not realizing that this often destroys them. They no longer make good contact even if they look OK.

Anybody chasing these kinds of electrical issues needs to invest in buying a bunch of #55 drill bits (shiny finish) for use in testing MPEM connector contacts. They serve a dual purpose, allows to test the grip of the contact as well as the ability to test continuity and voltages at the connector. The shank on these bits is .052", same size as the MPEM pins of this vintage. Note that the shank of the common 1/16" drill bits are only 10 thou larger, but will destroy the contact if you insert them.

pulled cover out and checked trigger coil..

Wire was rubbing and grounded.. "not broke"
cleaned heatshrinked benched at 247 ohms out of ski, 249 in ski
and no grounding on signal line at connector
    ReAssembled agaaaain.. and boom nothing..

Even with it spec'd to manual, think it might be the culprit.?

Only have a digital vm, so pulse AC difficult to see..

Most DMM's work fine in testing the AC output of the coil. What value are your seeing?
