    shorty waterbox mod...pics

this took a little time but im sure the sound will be worth it

stock box-cut the end off, cut the box down to size, gut it. drill a 2.5" hole in the box on the opposite end of the j-pipe. the center of the hole is about 2-2.5" away from the side of the box. take a dremel and elongate the hole.

now for the piping. i bought 1 90 degree mandrel bent alum 2.5 pipe and 1 45 for velocityair.com. it was like 30 shipped. the 45 is a very short piece, it goes from the thru hull outlet to the 90 comming off of the box. the 90 is also short, the other end of the 90 will extend down inside the box. its a personal preferance how long u want to make it. i left mine a little more than half way down (stock pipe was 1.5" from the bottom). and cut it on an angle for a bigger opening.

u have to cut the sensor bung out of the stock pipe, clean it up, and drill a hole for it on the new pipe, which is not pictured.

everything is going to the welder tommorow with a stop at the mulfer shop first to expand the ends of the pipes.

it took me and my Dad a few hours with pretty simple tools; hacksaw, dremel, drill, hole saw...

after welding and the mufler shop i should only have spent about $100+ $30 for pipes.

well, muffler shop "tried" flaring the pipes..didnt work so well. the longer 90 flared fine. the shorter 45 didnt, they only did one side and it split. it was too close to the bend. i think it can be salvaged though. its goin to the welder soon neway.

yea i was gonna suggest NOT bringing it to the muffler shop for flarings last night, but i decided not to say anything.... these thin walled aluminum pipes explode and split when flared apart like that

if you can't flare it, just have them run a pair of 2" long beads opposite eash other near the end, about 1/8th tall...that will be enough.

that sounds like a plan Danny. also the inlet tube on the box for the j-pipe looks like it has a crack in it so im gonna have him put another bead on top of that to be safe.

Has anyone noticed performance gains from this mod? If so what?
