Getting ready for first oil change

I've decided to do my own oil change and winterizing this year. I've read the sticky in the "HowTo" section and it's great.

Question about the oil filter - is the K&N 556 a good choice? Or should I stick with the OEM one? Something else?

Anything else I should know before I proceed (I bought a vaccuum pump to get the oil out already).

    Thx in advance!

I always used oem filters and make sure you replace the o rings in the filter cap and cap screw.

K&N makes good stuff. I always use their filters....on everything in the garage (oil, air, every vehicle). And it hardly costs much more than OEM if I remember correctly

That's going to be your preference.

But the o rings are a good idea to replace.

    I use OEM.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been compiling an annual service/winterizing "shopping list" based on lots of posts I've read, as well as the "official" Sea Doo bulletins, and posted it on my blog:

I'd appreciate any feedback regarding stuff I may have left out!

Buy 2 of everything so you're not paying twice for S&H and if you sink it you have parts handy. I run OEM filter also.

Wow, a lot of you guys don't mind paying top dollar for OEM paper filter crap huh? For high performance, boosted, expensive, 260+ HP engines....what's wrong with a high performance, trusted name filter that costs like maybe $2-3 more than OEM paper?

Hey thanks Jay... might be a good idea for my first own personal oil change and such.
Don't want to be a hassle or anything. So maybe when you're getting ready to do your wintering for
the season let me know and I can come get your guidance at least for the first one to see how
it's done right. Do you have your ski vtech tuned or something similar? For next year I'm looking
to do some minor mods, and if you have a vtech unit I'd pay for the extra unit addition and throw
some more cash your way to help offset the price of the unit etc.

    Thanks again
