    Stx-r gas tank sizes

Hello everyone, i have a 2002 STX-R and i find the run time not to be as good as my ultra. Im looking to upgrade the tank from an 04-05 model but i was just wondering if anyone knew how much bigger the newer tank is? and would it be worth pulling the engine for it?

    Thanks

I never had great gas mileage when i rode alone but once there was a passenger yelling in my ear the mileage got way better !! . I doubt installing a higher capacity tank is worth it. I would spend the money on a tune up first. The ultras are imo way more economical than the stxr...it is after all a race ski ....

    2002-2003 STX-R 14.0 gallons
    2004-2005 STX-R 16.4 gallons

I think all the Ultra 150's hold 15.3.

Does the STX-R have adjustable trim? My '98 STX doesn't. I figure that they can get away with this on a 3-seater by having the pump nozzle aimed down to give it down 'trim' all the time. This would make it stable, but would give it a lot more drag.

    No trim in the stxr..

Ill have to beat my head about it, two gallons is more run time.

Tune up? Ski had a recent rebuild.

Bigger gas tank is only 120 bucks brand new but is it worth it is my question.. might just leave her alone or wait till I find a used one.

    Thanks for all your inputs!

No adjustable trim. The STX-R does have a ride-plate specifically made for it that makes it handle differently than a regular STX. The STX-R ride-plate gets the bow up more for one thing. Different sponsons also which definitely make it handle differently that a STX.

Why would kawi install a bigger tank if there wasn't enough gain to make it worth it?

'Not for certain' but I think they also changed the design/shape of 04-05 tanks so they can be filled all the way up while sitting level in the water (or at the gas station). On the older tanks, to fill the tank all the way up, you actually had to tilt the front of the ski up some because that was the only way to burp that bubble of air out of the back of the tank.

Along with the obvious extra running time the 2.4 extra gallons give you.

Probably that too since it went from being a race ski to more of a ski aimed at the recreational market.
