    Broken ride plate bolts

Hey guys, got a 99 SPX and while I was out on the lake I was getting some base cavitation and a hard left pull. When I took the ski back to the trailer I noticed I broke the heads off of 3 of the 6 ride plate bolts. All of the bolts where broken on the left side. So here is where I'm at, I removed the pump, and also removed the ride plate. The bolts are broke off past flush so no chance of vice grips. Tried to heat the bolts but they are so far broken I am just burning the hull... So tried drilling a hole through the center to easy out them. Not a fan of an easy out though. So to get to my question, what kind of insert am I dealing with in the hull? Can I just drill the hole a little bigger and re tap? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've done a whole bunch of these repair. If the screws are buggered, you'll have to dril them out ( carefully) and install inew brass threaded inserts.

    like these:

    http://www.woodworkingparts.com/6-mm...readed-insert/

I get mine thru hot prudtcs but the are pretty common itmes.

to avoid a problem reinstall the brade and use the exisiting holes as a guild. it's tough to do from under the ski. I set the ski on some ld carpet and turn it on one side for easier work. Buy grade 8 bolts ( oem prefered stainless) and repalce the grate. Mot a real bad job..just a pain in the can.

I get $25 and up per hole to repair this kind of thing.

Set the inserts in with a little jb weld on the threads and it'll be as good as new.

Awesome guys thanks for the advice... After some time and a little patience I managed to get all the screws out... Bought a set of left handed drill bits and got to work. Luckily they all came out, I cleaned up the threads and reinstalled.. Lake test coming tomorrow
