Hi - what's the right position for twin coil mag cup on 951 motor. Mine has 1 long protusion and three short.

i've read a few comments all different from where mine is positioned. The photo shows the position of my mag cup with front (mag) piston at TDC. From what i've read it seems to be very wrong but it has run in this position. You can just see the edge of the long protrusion well past where the pickups would be.

    What's the correct position ?

    Thanks

    Phil

from what I was told, these engines can run 180* off. in this case i think that you are there. if your front piston is TDC the long bar on the cup should be before the pickup...rotate it so that the rear piston is TDC and see where that long bar on the cup is

Rear piston TDC puts the long bar about 10 o clock so still way off.

From what i keep reading it's way off and shouldn't even run.

The flywheel has a hole in it at the circumference of the mag cup , the mag cup should align with the long protrusion and this hole to get the correct relationship with the cup and flywheel.

The pick up is located between the bendix and the flywheel which is about where the long protrusion is in your picture if Im looking at it correctly.

Thanks - i understand that - pretty much same as my manual for 98 single coils set up.

From the photo of mine it looks about 30 degrees advanced from where it should be - it's been like that for 2 years!!!!

If it's so wrong I didn't think it would have even run.

Would it run if it were so wrong ? Never happy with the performance but this seems too far wrong if you know what i mean.

Ok - think i have it - from the manual page it says "ONE of edges of the protrusion has to line up with hole"

Trailing edge of protrusion is about 5 degrees advanced so it runs but it's wrong.

What is the purpose of the other three protrusions ?
