Brother in law just put a new battery in his gti. He said it cranked and started. Next day went to start and no crank, nothing. Charge battery overnight same thing no crank.

not much of a search then, there are plenty of discussions on troubleshooting this sort of issue.

    so let's do this (again)

1-key beep when you put it on the post?
2-any clicking sounds from the electric box where the battery cable goes in when you it the button?
3-New battery is suspect. Didf you measure the voltage at the battery with a meter?
    4-check all the fuses?
5-if all good check for 12v at the starter side of the solenoid when you press the start button. if you get 12v there and no engine cranking the starter is toast ( and they can fail just like that)

I'd give you 3-1 that the new battery is a dud and lost it overnight.

oh yeah, I'm a refugee from exit 49

    You are more then welcome...

took some adjustments to move to New Mexico but not to have to have brake light burn on my retinas and the daily cough and crawl on the cross bronx ( I livd in jersey before I moved)..well worth it. specially when I can roar at 75(legal) on 130 miles of smooth blacktop to the "big city" and not pay a single thin dime in tools...had to get used to calling it a "freeway" and not "the interstate"

for those of you not familiar with the cross bronx...

it's a 4 lane divided highway that runs below street grade in NYC. During the summer airconditioning in your car gains the moniker of "the life support system" as without it, on recirc...you're dead in 20 minutes.

You don't have panhanders in heavy traffic...you got guys selling8oz ottle of nearly frozen water for $2+ whatever

please shout out on the brand of the junker battery.

The collective membership here likes Deka and Odyssey batteries btw.
