    SLT780

    Hi

I've been searching the forum and reading the polaris parts finder but cant find the info i need.

I have an slt780 that is in a jetboat some of you might be familiar with the boat. anyhow the stock three blade works pretty good but i think i would gain performance from a four blade impeller. was that ever made for the 780 engine? I have a four blade from a 750 but it didn't seem to work that great. any info appreciated

    cheers

If you have the stock 3 blade Skat style prop, those are better than the 4 blade props. What is your clearance? A less than perfect prop canseeriously degrade performance. Making sure your jet pump is in perfect condition is the best performance add on you can do before anything else

Since this is in a heavier hull than stock, with a different water intake flow, the stock impeller might be a bit too much pitch. Generally speaking, as the hull gets 'heavier' the prop needs to be pitched lower to avoid lugging the engine.

What RPM is this engine turning at wide open on the water?

What GPS speed on the water?

hull is about the same weight but the surface area is much more thats true. im pretty happy with the top end. but in my experience with other river boats 4 blade impeller has a better load carrying ability and also a better hole shot.

i did notice though that the 750 impeller seemed to give a higher top speed but was horibble in take off. would just cavitate like crazy. its a pretty tight fit in the wear ring.

keeping my pump in good condition is pretty hard on the river.

in general im happy with performance but im about to buy a few new impellers so i wanted to try a four blade if it existed. i have the tools at work ot rebuild impellers so once i have 4-5 good correct pitch impellers i will just rebuild them eahc time. right now i have only one good impeller. the 750 is not worth my time i think.

not sure on speed figures but im getting ~6400 depending on blade condition. also im 1200 ft in elevation and quite a cold climate.

6400 is probably right in the ball park if you are at 1200 feet. See if you can get a hold of a Skat Trak 13/18

What part number is on your impeller? ending in 79, is a 4 blade impeller that was used on 1995 SL750 & SLX780, an impeller ending in 35 was the standard on 94 & 95 SLT750, not a good low end prop, I haven't had the chance to try a 79 on mine, but the skat-trak 13/18 was far superior to the 35 in low end & top end.

Don't bother with the 79, I have tried it. The Skat 13/18 is the one to go with.....
