    Operating pwc at night.

Well, I bought a yamaha SUV to convert it to a fishing machine. I don't really do night fishing, but sunset is one of the best time to fish. I have navigation light and all the things needed for night. I offen fish till sun set and goes home. Last week, when I get my jet ski out of the water, a fellow boater told me that he was caught operating his pwc at night the week before and was fine $1000.00. I was shock to hear that, $1000.00 fine? And I have not jet ski fishing after sunset since then. Can anyone confirm this?

Not only is it stupid to drive after dark but it's also very dangerous, and illegal. They are too fast and you would need a massive amount of headlights to effectively see in front of you and all around . Sorry to bust your bubble, but they don't belong in the water after dark. Too many variables and too many bad things can happen

Even if you decided to head back at dusk and somthing happens nightfall comes very quickly. The lastest I ride is about 1 or 2 hours before sunset so in July that's about 730pm and now about 630 PM.

Here @ our lake PWC can not be out after sunset. Having said that I have seen a lot of PWC SUV out after dark but have all the required navigation lites ... even dealers here sell them set up that way if you so choose. Go Fig...

Its illegal, its not the speed as some have said on here that makes it a problem, its the maneuverability of a PWC, it can change directions ALOT quicker than a boat, the way its worded here in Tennessee its any vessel that you can ride on , not sit inside of...and is not allowed to be operated between sunset and sunrise...not sure of the fine, but Im sure its pretty hefty....

Damn, can I add a 1 feet wide border to the SUV and call it a boat?

PWC operation at night varies by state, but the majority, from what I've read and heard in the last few years, have outlawed operation between dusk and dawn.

Yes, you can convert a PWC into a boat, but really, why bother? First you have to understand what the definition of a PWC is in your state and then remove all that defines it. For example, in LA: I would have to fiberglass the sides up around me so that I'm sitting "in" the craft and not "on" it. I would also have to glass up the tunnel and put a prop on the outside of the hull. I think, instead, I'll just use a boat...

That being said, I always admire those that push the envelope and mod in a direction that folks say couldn't be done.

Here in Minnesota PWCs have to be off the water 1 hour before sunset.
