12 volt low warning at low RPMs on 1999 GTX RFI

When I run at low rpms for more than a minute (when going through a no wake zone for example) I get the "12 volt low" warning appear on my 1999 Sea Doo GTX RFI. Once I open the throttle to above 3500rpm the warning goes away. I think I have read somewhere in the forums that some ECUs are a little voltage sensitive and do this? I have not checked the actual voltage at the battery yet. If that is showing a good charge at all rpms can I just disregard this message or is it a warning of problems to come? Apart from this the ski runs superbly.

Could be the rectifier getting weak or even a weak battery. Check voltage at startup watching for voltage drop, then note idle voltage, then rev it up slowly to 5000 RPM's or so and note the voltage rise. If the voltage does not rise much above idle voltage while revving then I'd say your rectifier is trying to die. Very common on the RFI skis. OSD parts sells a HD version to replace the crappy oem one.

Excellent advice! Thanks. I will check it out this weekend and let you know the results. OSD parts is who?

OK. I found OSD and the rectifier at: http://www.osdparts.com/index.php?ma...&products_id=8. Alas the rectifiers are out of stock at present.

That's because so many have to be replaced.

I have a 2000 GTX which was giving low voltage warnings, it was diagnosed as a bad rectifier/regulator, the part cost alone was $176 for a new replacement,
