ID:	312545I have a chance to get a Polaris Genesis for an even trade for my ATV that I never ride. It has 8 hours on a rebuilt motor, all work done by a reputable dealer in Lake of the Ozarks Mo. It was running this summer when the CDI went out, according to the same dealer. I have a polaris freedom, but I really want a 4 person SKI to fit the family on it. I am willing to put some time, effort, and cash into it over the off season to make it a reliable SKI for the family. Is it practical to do so? I am having trouble finding a CDI of course. The guy told me he found some people that rebuild them but I'm thinking not. If someone can supply me with some options here I will make the trade. Just don't want something I can't fix.

The CDI are currently in short supply, but with some time you should be able to find one or two (spares).

If you can post some more info on whoever is actually able to repair these CDI, I would be interested.

    What year is that Genesis?

Have you evaluated the condition of the machine?

You can do a compression check without a working CDI. All spark plugs out, throttle held wide open.

Have not :inspected the machine yet. It is in Missouri and me in Kansas. I am from there and travel back frequently. I paid 800 for the atv and never ride so I dont have too much to lose as long as I can fix it. I am going to check compression and they told me everything was in working order when it quit including the display and reverse.

Can you confirm it is a carburetor engine?

He thought it was a fuel injected but I think I can see a choke knob in one of the photos and the dealer thinks it needs a cdi so that is what I am going off of. It would be nice if it was FI and they just said cdi.

Carburetor engines have the spark plugs sticking straight up from the top of the engine.

Fuel injected engines have bulky fist sized fuel injectors right on top of the cylinders with the spark plugs angled low towards the air intake.

A photo of the engine compartment will tell you which it is.
