2000 1100 STX DI Water Temp Senser Install help needed

Just saw the following info in the service manual.

Fill the hollow of the exhaust pipe with transmission oil before installing the water temperature sensor

    Oil Viscosity 5W30 or 40.

Ok, so without removing the exhaust pipe how to you fill the hole that is pointed to the side?
Use transmission fluid or engine oil?

Either will work. I have read some recommend grease. Petroleum jelly has a very low melting point and would probably transfer heat quickly, that is what I would use. Or you can remove the pipe and fill it with oil.

The thing about grease is... the thicker it is, the slower it will conduct heat. You want the computer to know what the motor is doing as quickly as possible, that is why Kawi says to use 5W oil/trans fluid. The sensor HAS to be in contact with something, it wont read air temp. Vaseline would melt very quickly and transfer the heat plus be easy to pack into the vertical sensor hole. Grease will work it will just take a little longer to transfer to the sensor. How much longer? I don't know.

I think without anything it will not read the actual temperature
