    Exhaust Issue

Well, here is what happened tonight...

I just got done installing the new engine in my 06 rxp so I took it out for a ride tonight. Rode it for about 10 minutes and then all the sudden the cluster flashes Exhaust (P1544??? Maybe) and the ski cuts off. I wait a minute and it fires up but then dies right back out. Luckily there was someone out there fishing that was able to tow me back which was maybe 300yards.

Upon my return home I notice that the J-Pipe has come out of the water box there at the inlet hose. There is a possibility that I left the clamp loose. So my two questions are as follows:

1)I emptied the water box before putting everything back together and now there is still no water in the box after running it for a bit. Do I need to fill it up with water prior to the next restart?

    2) I was only towed at idle on the tow boat which was just a creep. Is there anything that I need to check to make sure that the engine has not ingested any water before I start it again?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the lengthy post.

#1. nope your good, no need to add water
#2. if its was just a slow creep, your fine. if your really wanting to be cautious, remove the spark plugs before you try to turn it over, but I highly doubt you need to.

No, you don't need to refill it, and no, you can tow the skis at idle speed,no problem. I would however, make sure water is flowing through your exhaust when you get everything straightened out.

think the water blows out the j pipe hole when this happens.

Run it less than 2 min on the hose and make sure water is coming out the exhaust pipe hole and the prop area.

Thanks everyone. Is it common for that p1544 to cause the ski to shut off?

You must refill the box with Spring water, usually a gallon will do , JK JK, I kid, I kid. No need to refill the box and I doubt you got any water in the engine. Invest in a hose pincher or clamp, just something to pinch the water line of if there is a next time!

Might if the ski was choking on itself with the exhaust pumping into the hull.

I had an older 2stroke Doo that popped a clamp and choked itself out. Popped the seat and exhaust billowed out. oops

Hooked it back up and put two hours on it this weekend. All is well.
