painted my ski today
i thought i would post some pics of the before and after pics of sanding, prepping and painting.i had some pretty good dings over this past summer. i hit a few logs floating in the Cape Fear River, docking the ski on the shore to load and unload, and other things that happens to jet skis in harsh environments we ride in. I used PPG single stage gloss black, i filled low areas with regular bondo ..i am sure that is something better..but i put enought money into this ski this year such as new supercharger and jet pump., i used 60 grit on a orbiting sander to get the old paitn scuffed up to bond with new paint, i washed the boat thouroughly, let dry, then wipped down the underside with paint thinner. i sprayed the base coat and waited 15 mintes ans sprayed a second coat.

Looks good for now.
The bondo is for cars not WATERCRAFTs..
The bondo will attract water , swell up and fall off..
Hope this doesn't happen to you!!

i painted it last year. it did fine. the paint is a urethane so therefore it should be water proof. The only way for the bondo to ever see water is the paint pills off. I can see that happening if i strike a object floating in the water. i only have 23 bucks in the paint job, since i had most of the supplies. If you have the cash and time..go back with gel coat..there isnt a paint close to it that i know of!

Yeah bondo is no bueno for skis, especially on the bottom where scratches and water intrusion will eventually happen again. So what tho??, if you have to do it again, at least you are that much better at it the next time. Real body filler can be gotten the same pace you got your paints and supplies. Even just a cheap tube will last you a long time. Is it just me or were the bumpers on the ski while you painted?

...the bumpers were on.

i wouldnt take off the bumpers to paint it...im not even sure how to take them off. Unless you lay on your back with a flashlight you would never notice it. i prep the boat thouroughly, it shouldnt peel off. My issue is hitting crap in the water. i don't care who paints it or what paint you use it will come off. The river i ride in is notorious for debris floating in it.
