my 04 RXP dropped valves my options

    Hi there,

I recently bought 2x sea doo rxp one is an 05 with 180hrs and one was a 04 with 65hrs on it. I took them to the local sea doo dealer and had a full service a pump rebuild done on the 05 and both had superchargers rebuilt with upgraded washers to the tune of $2100. I was riding them and less than an hour after getting them back the 04 sea doo dropped 2x exhaust valves on the back cylinder. I took them back to the dealer who removed the engine and stripped it down. It has damaged the head but the bore looks ok but they are saying to rebuild that motor is going to cost more than putting a SBT motor in it, they want $3000 to supply and fit a SBT motor with a 1 year warranty.

I am reluctant to do that I want to have the original motor built up and we know where it stands then. Does anybody know anywhere that does jet ski work in Bradenton Florida, or would you just have the dealer put the sbt motor in it and be done with it? They say that the new sbt motor won't have the hollow valves that caused the problem.

Thanks for any advise and help!!

    Phil

My opinion is to stay away from a sbt motor.

Depending on the damage to the piston and head would rebuild the motor you have. But I work on my own stuff so that saves me money.

    Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. A member here can fix damaged heads, Slow 91.
I would look into repairing it before rolling the dice on an sbt engine.
    Good luck!

The newer model 4tecs have better exhaust valves and 04 to early 06 are known for that problem.

IMO you are wasting your time with an SBT motor due to the fact it will be out again in 3 hours and then 3 hours after that. Either find a good mechanic to do rebuild or try and find used.

I just don't see how SBT would be in business if the motors are THAT bad.

I have used a ton of SBT parts without any drama. I know a couple guys running their 4TECs without issues too.

I know SEVERAL that have used SBT engines. Most have had no issues.

Those that have, have been taken care of even outside of their coverage.
