What should i Do ? with a 2005 sportster. Flooded, sat for 3 years

I have a 2005 Sportster with trailer. The boat has been sitting for 3 Years after a storm drowned it . It dint sink but it did take on water and sat there. The boat has a perfect body with a few dings nothing major. it shows some sun fading but I have been able to bring the shine back with polishing, the seats need to be recovered and a few small thing like the cup holders need replacing. Other than That the body is in excellent shape. Now the engine is another story, the previous owner had some work done but it never got fixed. He let it sit in the driveway for 3 years uncovered .
What would you do? How much would you spend, and is it worth to keep after the fix , will it be a reliable boat even after I put new engine and all that comes with that ?
I have $300 bucks in it with clear title. I would hate to see this boat sit there and decay and not be used. I Dont mind spending some $$ on it because it might be fun to own or sell , I just dont want to be a money pit either. It has the 4-tec 215 hp engine that i hear is not too reliable.
    what should I do?

    (1) Sell it and the Trailer.
    (2) Fix it, max budget 3-4 k
    (3) Part it, sell trailer separately

If you are a mechanic like nmpeter then you might be ok.
If your not then I'd sell it..

Too many possible issues for something that's been neglected for so long.

    215
The 215 is a reliable motor when set up properly...

Look over the motor, post some pics of it. We can tell you if it is worth redoing or not.....Even if the motor has rust, its worth salvaging...Budget atleast 2K for the entire motor if its in bad shape...

Since you told us how much you got it for, you now have a bidding war .....I bid $610, and a case of beer....

You have a nice project on your hands.

I would start with the engine, check the oil and pull the plugs, pull the charger and inspect probably get it rebuilt. Than crank over the engine, dose it turn over? Check compression and maybe a leak down test.

Then go from there. Even if you need a complete engine they can be found for about 3000 bucks.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. here are some pics of the engine and boat . The engine does not have any Rust anywhere. To clarify a bit, the boat had rain water from a storm while it was in the slip. it was pulled from the slip and put in a trailer ,then it sat in the driveway for 3 years. from what i can see it never was properly checked to see if the engine turns. I'm in the process to get a new battery to see if the electronics are going to at least respond .
I will gladly follow any advise as what to do with it in its current state.

1- should i try a new batt first?
    2- whats next?
    let me know
