    Potential 2004 FX HO Purchase

    Hey everyone,

There is a 2004 FX HO around my house that supposedly has low compression on one cylinder. The ski looks to be in great shape aside from the motor. Seller has title and is asking around $1000 for the ski. I just recently got done with a SEADOO RXP that had a blown engine and now I kind of have the bug. My question is how readily available/expensive are used engines and parts or is this a reasonable price point to part out?

    Thanks in advance

Does it come with a trailer? If so then its not bad but you can still try to work down a couple hundreds. I think engines go anywhere from 1,000 (killer deal) to somewhere around 2,000 if im not mistaking. If the damage is not extensive and you can do the work yourself you might be able to save some big bucks on the repair.

    Yamacruiser,

Thank you for your input. The $1000 does not include a trailer. I already have an engine hoist and stand so I will probably pull the engine and then make a diagnosis. If it has a hole in the block then I will need to decide whether to find a new engine or find a salvageable block.

for $1000 you've got nothing to lose. If it doesnt work out you sell a few components on ebay and you make some money too.
Go for it! Just the ECU is worth $500 at least!!

Those were my thoughts as well. The ski appears to be in great shape.

BTW, I would go run the ski. I have seen these skis with one cylinder showing only 140 psi that still perform...Give it shot before taking it apart. It's a steal if it looks in great shape too. Heck if I find a ski like this, I buy it just to learn how to work on the engine
