Thread: reed gaskets?

    reed gaskets?

Having start issues with 98 sltx so I decided to pull the reeds just to check and they had fuel all over the front of them. There weren't any gaskets on either side of the reeds. This should be rectified correct?

I checked the parts diagram and it doesn't show any gaskets. I assume I can install them to ensure a tight seal.

I like to use some of the case sealant on the reed cages. When I have done leak tests in the past that was a common area where I would find small leaks.

Yes. 6 of them. Unless your running reed spacers its 9. Plus the carb to intake manifold gaskets. Use grease on those. Lightly! Make sure the reed stuffers lay flat to the reed block when installing.

Dude he is talking about a domestic. The domestic reed cages have a rubber lip molded to the cage that provides the seal. I have found that sometimes they dont seal perfectly however.

Yeah it has the rubber lip however it definitely wasn't holding a seal anymore. I will give the sealant a try. Thanks!
