HELP! 15 amp fuse keeps blowing. 98GTXL Died!

Yesterday coming back from the back beach my g/f's 98GTXL died while running.

Nothing on the info gauge, no beeps=dead

Had to tow it back & am worried about possible water in the engine and would like to get it started.

Recently had a exhaust gasket leak. Just replaced it and also a fuel baffle repair. Did the fix where you remove the fuse on it. This worked fine on my GSXL.

Tried to find out what was wrong last night, disconnected the baffle wire (pink wire).

Put in three 15 amp fuses and they popped the second I put them in. Never had this happen all the other fuses are fine.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Gary

could be the mpem failed..disconnect it and see if the fuse still blows.

There is no VTS on a GTXL

Took off the mag cover and used a mirror to check for debris. Looked fine but the mag cover looked rough.

Ohmed it out on the contact points of the magneto( ?) 245 ohms but neighbor doesn't think that is a true test.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,
    Gary

The dark spots on the two right hand coils looks like shorted coils to me. Does the 15A fuse blow with the stator unplugged ?

Try an ohm meter between each yellow output wire and the cover eg A - cover, B - cover and C - cover, you should get infinity or a very high resistance which means no shorts to ground. Then check between pairs of yellow output wires eg A - B, B - C and C - A, these should all be the same reading 0.1 to 1.0 ohm according to the manual. If any of these are 0 or no resistance then the coils are shorted together. I think this is what you will find looking at the colour of those two coils.

If that were my machine I would replace the stator coil and mag pickup as it looks like water got in the front cover and corroded everything.

Be careful with the electrical on that machine as the rectifier is built into the MPEM and it's expensive to replace.

Over here in the land of Surf and Bikini Girls (i wish) we get the stators rewound and say they are for motorbikes, when we say they they are for seadoo's the price doubles immediately as they (electrical re winders) know how much BRP charge for an OEM unit
Might be different over their ??

pull the mpem connectors and inspect..the stator can go to the bottom of the fix list at this instant. Third party stators much cheaper, but your shipping is gonna kill.

I'll guess the connectors are wet right now.. Popping the main fuse is a big deal..something vey wrong.

there is a mod for the regulator issue that allows the use of an external regulator, but later on that as well. right now there is a dad short someplace.

Have a go at harness inspection. Maybe something is pinched and it finally grounded out.

    manual/electrical diagrams helpful here.

What about trying to get a local Stator Repair Shop to rewind?

    Anyone had luck with that?

The stator might not be the problem have you tried a new 15A fuse with the stator unplugged ?
