Garmin virb.... give the gopro a run for its money?

    http://sites.garmin.com/virb/

Tell you what if the battery life is better than the GP they might have something there... my battery life is for crap on my GPH2. also being able to charge the battery without the camera being involved is a novelty.

About 1/2 pound, gonna need a solid mounting to stay put on a pounding watercraft hull.

What does a GoPro Hero3 weigh, similarly configured?

My Hero3 Black has a removable battery. I have a wall charger and two spare batteries for it.

The more I use the Hero3, the more I can see room for improvements.

it does look like a neat package... I have the Handlebar mounts for my GPH2.. the video quality really isn't that bad.. I mean I am not complaining about that.. but there are things(small) that they can improve upon.. my big moan is about the battery life.. but before I really start to whine.. I'll replace them first.. because they are kinda old... and I absolutely positively hate the fact that I have to charge the battery IN the camera. whether or not by USB or by the "optional" wall plug- which goes from the wall to the camera.. No batt Cradle. The prices for the 2 Garmin units are pretty close to the GP too.

I am a Garmin fan from waay back.... I guess I am kinda like a Mac Fan boy... I like most everything they put out- even if it's rubbish.

Why not get a backpac for your GP2 and just charge the battery in it, or better yet get one of the non OEM battery chargers and spare batteries that are available.

I thought about the backpack... Historically, I have not had much luck with Non OEM- anything... batteries are not the same any more. some chargers have proper circuits in them and some don't. I'll have another look around though.... it cant hurt...

I looked at Garmin's videos and was not impressed by their video quality. I'm a Garmin fan, too. But after seeing the videos, I just can't get myself to like it.

And, yes, I did set it to the highest quality.

I presently have a Hero 2 after having lost the other Hero 2 in a storm. After doing even more research, we have decided that our next addition will be the Olympus TG-2. Seems to do everything the others do--except go DEEP into the water. But we don't need to go deep.

I don't understand the 'have to charge in the camera' for the GoPro. I've bought 2 batteries and a wall charger for $20.
Life per battery ~ 2.5h. 32 GB card can record ~ 4h. Good to see some competition though and I do like the build-in stabilization control.

Swann Freestyle 1080p HD has been good to me.. It's very comparable to the GP2 but the price makes it even more desirable.
    8MP camera (5MP default)
Remote, LCD attachment WP case a lot more mounts than GP
