    Beginning Reassembly XL1200

I'm about to begin to reassemble the top end of my 66v engine and was wondering if there is anything to look out for.

Are there any "tricks of the trade" things to remember to do to ensure proper assembly?

Do the gaskets need sealer put on them or do you just put the gasket straight in the middle of the jug and cases?

I have a few nicks on my head, how do I sand these?

    Thanks
    Tom

That's a sweet thread! I was also wondering about the base gaskets, below the cylinders. Do you use 1211 on those as well?

    Thanks!!!!

I usually put a thin layer of grease, but you can 1211 them if you like

i bought a XLT once, guy had it at a shop and engine locked at the shop he had the ski worked on, No one could figure out what the problem was.... when i pulled the cylinder there was a Hose clamp jammed in the case and the crank.... point of the story, Never underestimate the obvious. before assembly make sure crank case doesnt have any crap that fell in there... run a magnet pen in there just to be on the safe side...

Good point. I dropped a washer down in there last night and had to fish it out.
